Strong field set for Tiger's Target World Challenge

LOS ANGELES: Ten of the world's top 20 players will be competing in next week's invitational Target World Challenge hosted by world number one Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods heads a 16-man line-up finalised on Friday that includes fellow Americans Jim Furyk (ranked third) and Steve Stricker (fourth), plus British Open champion Padraig Harrington of Ireland (eighth).

Also competing are Fiji's Vijay Singh (ninth), South African Rory Sabbatini (11th), Masters champion Zach Johnson of the U.S. (15th), Briton Luke Donald (17th) and Swedes Henrik Stenson (16th) and Niclas Fasth (20th).

"This is always a great event that is well supported by my fellow competitors on the PGA Tour," Tiger Woods said in a statement.

"This is our ninth year and I'm again thrilled at the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the kids that my Foundation supports. I am excited to get back to the golf course and to defend my title."

Tiger Woods won last year's tournament by four shots to clinch his 11th title of 2006. He again dominated the PGA Tour this season, racking up seven victories which included his 13th major at the PGA Championship in August.

"Any time you win a major championship in the year it's always going to be a great year, and this certainly is," the 31-year-old American added.

The $5.75 million Target World Challenge will be held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California from December 13-16.

The full field is: Tiger Woods, Furyk, Stricker, Harrington, Singh, Johnson, Donald, Sabbatini, Stenson, Fasth, Paul Casey, Lee Westwood, Brett Wetterich, Mark Calcavecchia, Colin Montgomerie and Fred Couples.
