Fred Couples still King of Skins Game

It's not a major championship, in fact it's not even an official PGA Tour event.

But few golfers have ever dominated a single event like Fred Couples has dominated the LG Skins Game.

Couples has won the title five times since first debuting in the event in 1992. Compare that with the most wins every in a PGA Tour sanctioned event, eight victories by Sam Snead in Greensboro. Jack Nicklaus won the Masters six times, while Arnold Palmer won five times at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

in dominating the event, Couples has set record for most earnings ($3.9 million), most appearances (13) and most skins won (86). He also holds a variety of other records, including most earnings on Saturday, most earnings on Sunday and even most birdies in a single year (10 in 2006). Ironically, those 10 birdies didn't win Couples the 2006 title.

While Couples may hold the title of King of the Skins Game, the Skins is hardly what defines Couples as a player. Couples has won 15 times on the PGA Tour, including the 1991 Masters, his only major title. Couples was one of the game's top players in the early 1990s, winning player of the year in 1991 and 1992.

In addition to his Skins Game success, Couples also won the Coachella Valley's official tour stop, the 1998 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, in a playoff over Bruce Lietzke.
