Golf Fans Stay Connected with WiFi Service from AT&T
By Erik Linask
May 11, 2006

Business people and consumers have at least one big thing in common these days, which is that they all want — perhaps need — to stay connected to their colleagues, friends, and families when away from the office or home. Whether on the road visiting clients, on the way to pick up the kids, or even seated by the 9th green, they all want to be able to send and receive emails and more.

So, to keep golf fans connected during the upcoming EDS Byron Nelson Championship this week in Irving, Texas, AT&T (News - Alert) has announced it is providing its AT&T WiFi service throughout the golf course free of charge. What this means is that, for the third year, spectators will be able to stay in contact with the home or office while enjoying a day of golf thanks to AT&T’s high speed wireless service.

In addition to providing WiFi (News - Alert) service, AT&T is also providing DSL service via wireline connections in select corporate tents and corporate villas in the Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas.

Thanks to AT&T, those fortunate enough to be able to spend a day — or several days — away from the office enjoying the tournament will have the luxury of staying in contact, which, in today’s fast-faced environment, can be critical. Spectators will be able to connect with their 802.11 b/g-enabled devices — laptops, PDAs, or smartphones — to access email, the Internet, or corporate networks.

It means that business decisions can still be made while executives enjoy well deserved time away from the office. It means that business does not have to stop simply because people are away from the office. It means that, as is becoming more and more evident each day, ubiquitous connectivity is becoming a part of our everyday business and personal lives and that the service providers and developers that offer connectivity solutions are in demand, now more than ever.
