Mercedes-Benz teams up with golf in DUBAi to drive game forward

Mercedes-Benz underlined its drive to making golf a truly global sport when they signed up with 'golf in DUBAi' as the Official Car sponsor of the forthcoming Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Master

Under terms of the four-year agreement with 'golf in DUBAi', the promoters and organisers of the region's premier tournaments, Mercedes-Benz will chauffer the world's leading players to and from the venue - the Emirates Golf Club - in gleaming models, besides making a significant on-site presence.

With great Tiger Woods and American sensation Michelle Wie headlining the respective fields, the tournaments have already started making waves in the international circuit, promising to give golf tourism to Dubai a big boost.

The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters -- the season-ending event on the Ladies European Tour -- gets under way from December 6 to 11, 2010 while the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which will see Tiger Woods chase a record-equalling third win in his sixth visit to the longest-running European Tour tournament in the region, will be played from February 7 to 13, 2011.

Mercedes-Benz, the oldest automotive brand in the world, is no stranger to golf, having been the Official Automobile Partner of The Masters in Augusta as well as the Official Patron of the PGA of America which includes the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup 2012.

Their new contract with 'golf in DUBAi' that extends up to 2014 only goes to show how closely the company shares Dubai's vision of making the city a leading commercial and sporting hub.

Commenting on the association, Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East & Levant, said: "The partnership with 'golf in DUBAi' aligns with our strategy to place Mercedes-Benz at the forefront of marquee events."

"These are prestigious and exclusive tournaments that appeal to many Mercedes-Benz customers and attract international players to the region. This new partnership is a natural extension of our long-standing history with the sport which we have always felt hamonises our brand values."

"This collaboration provides a unique opportunity to connect with our customers, as well as strengthen existing relationships with our partners within an environment that mirrors the Mercedes-Benz image and reputation," he added.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of 'golf in DUBAi,' echoing similar sentiments, said: "We are delighted to establish this new partnership. Mercedes-Benz has a wonderful reputation for building outstanding motor vehicles and its brand is a perfect fit with the profiles of our tournaments."

"The famous three-pointed star is not only recognised as a symbol of quality and safety, it also denotes a proud heritage, a lineage that can be traced back to the very first automobile, patented in 1886 by Karl Benz."

"We are very proud to welcome them in our closely-knit family of sponsors and together we will strive to deliver events in sync with Dubai's credentials as the sporting capital of the region."

'golf in DUBAi' is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Gulf News Emirates NBD, Mercedes-Benz, Jumeirah and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi's drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
